Our Story

Die Groot Trek Braai Co. is about South African food and the people who cook it.

The best recipes in this country were never really written down. They lived in someone's hands: how long the chops stay on the coals, when the bredie is ready, how much sugar goes into the melktert. We are writing them down properly, so they get cooked for another generation.

Every cookbook we make is original. The dishes are South African classics, but every recipe, story and tip is written and tested by us, in natural Afrikaans and clear English. Each recipe tells you what to look for, what usually goes wrong, what you can swap, and how to store it, so you can cook with confidence the first time.

We are starting at the fire and the family table. Boerekos, braai, potjie, baking and the puddings that end a long Sunday lunch. More is coming.
