DJI Ronin 4D 4-Axis Cinema Camera 6K Combo
Integrated and Modular Design:
The DJI Ronin 4D features a one-of-a-kind design built from carbon fiber and aluminum magnesium, creating a robust body that combines the camera, stabilization, focusing systems, wireless transmission, and control into a single unit. This integration eliminates lengthy setups and allows faster shooting, while still offering the flexibility of modular accessories for expanded creative options.
Processing Power:
At its core is the Zenmuse X9, DJI’s flagship full-frame camera, powered by the advanced CineCore 3.0 image processing system. Utilizing DJI’s proprietary chip, CineCore 3.0 delivers cinema-grade computing performance, enabling internal recording of ProRes 422 HQ and H.264 formats. It supports high-resolution video options up to 8K at 75fps and 4K at 120fps, catering to professional filmmakers’ diverse needs.
Built-In ND Filters:
The X9 camera includes 9-stop motorized ND filters (ranging from ND 2 to ND 512) that can be switched quickly and smoothly. These filters are engineered to perfectly match the Ronin 4D’s color science.
DL Lenses and Interchangeable Mounts:
X9 supports the DJI DL mount, designed for three lightweight full-frame prime lenses crafted from carbon fiber, each weighing roughly 180g. It also supports interchangeable mounts, including DJI’s DL and third-party options like Leica M. This compatibility allows use of a broad array of cinema lenses, such as ultra-wide, large-aperture, zoom, macro, and anamorphic lenses.
Wireless Lens Control:
With dedicated modules, the system enables wireless control of both manual and autofocus lenses, streamlining lens operation during shoots.
4-Axis Stabilization:
Unlike traditional 3-axis gimbals, Ronin 4D adds a Z-axis to greatly reduce vertical shake, offering stabilization comparable to a dolly. This system combines dual visual sensors, a downward-facing ToF sensor, an IMU, a barometer, and an advanced algorithm to deliver unprecedented steadiness.
Integrated Gimbal Camera:
The imaging and stabilization are integrated into the gimbal camera, where only the sensor and essential optics remain on the gimbal. The tilt axis uses dual symmetric motors, and the pan and roll axes feature an added stiffness buffer for enhanced performance.
ActiveTrack Pro:
Leveraging DJI’s proprietary computer vision, deep learning, and CineCore 3.0’s computing power, ActiveTrack Pro delivers cinema-quality tracking shots in a single take. It can track subjects from greater distances while continuously adjusting composition and autofocus to keep subjects sharp during movement.
LiDAR Waveform and Range Measurement:
Ronin 4D makes manual focusing intuitive with visual focus aids that display ranging points in a clear top-down LiDAR waveform on both main and remote monitors. Its LiDAR Range Finder projects up to 43,200 points within a 10-meter range, enabling faster, more precise focus than traditional PDAF—especially effective in low light and on textureless subjects.
Autofocus and Automated Manual Focus (AMF):
The LiDAR focusing system maintains focus despite fast motion blur. Autofocus works even with manual lenses when paired with a focus motor. AMF mode combines the accuracy of manual focus with the convenience of autofocus: the focus wheel moves in sync with focus adjustments but still allows manual override. The right-hand grip’s focus wheel uses electromagnetic damping, providing a tactile, intuitive focusing experience.
Video Transmission:
Ronin 4D employs DJI’s O3 Pro Video Transmission technology, achieving an extraordinary 20,000-foot transmission range. It supports 2.4GHz, 5.8GHz, DFS frequency bands, and AES 256-bit encryption. It streams 1080p/60fps video feeds to multiple remote monitors simultaneously with superior security, stability, and resistance to interference. DJI’s proprietary chip integrates imaging, transmission, reception, and monitoring for ultra-low latency.
Integrated Wireless System:
The 4D Video Transmitter mounts directly on the Ronin 4D and draws power from its battery. The High-Bright Remote Monitor features a 7-inch, 1,500-nit touchscreen with wide color gamut and supports HDMI and SDI outputs via expansion. Its lightweight design enables quick setup and portability.
Coordinated Multi-User Shooting:
The High-Bright Remote Monitor can connect one transmitter to multiple receivers for video/audio feeds in two modes: Broadcast (unlimited receivers) ideal for large crews, and Control (two receivers) for synchronized operations. It pairs with Ronin 4D hand grips, DJI Master Wheels, Force Pro, and the Three-Channel Follow Focus for precise remote control of focus, gimbal movements, recording, and camera settings. A built-in gyro sensor allows the monitor to function as a motion controller.
Mirror Control Mode:
This mode lets the High-Bright Remote Monitor mirror the main monitor’s interface, including playback and settings, enabling remote adjustments even when Ronin 4D is mounted on rigs like jibs, cable cams, or vehicles.
Independent Recording and Playback:
Each remote monitor includes a microSD slot for separate 1080p/60fps recording and independent playback without interfering with other monitors.
Comprehensive Monitoring Tools:
The 5.5-inch, 1000-nit adjustable main monitor supports exposure assistance (waveform, false color, zebra), focus aids (LiDAR waveform, peaking, magnification), customizable overlays (frame guides, safe zones, center markers), and color preview with LUT support. Multi-link monitoring lets different outputs have independent LUTs.
Storage Options:
Ronin 4D offers a built-in CFexpress Type-B slot and a USB 3.1 Type-C port for external recording. It supports DJI PROSSD 1TB for high-spec internal recording, which connects directly to computers via USB-C, simplifying media access without an SSD reader—combining cost-efficiency, performance, and reliability.
Audio Recording:
Equipped with built-in microphones supporting dual-channel 24-bit audio, plus 3.5mm and XLR inputs for versatile sound recording options.
Battery Life:
Using TB50 Intelligent Batteries (shared with Ronin 2 and Inspire 2), the Ronin 4D can shoot for up to 2.5 hours and fully recharge in 1.5 hours. Auto-heating supports reliable operation in extremely cold conditions.
